Superintendent’s Page

Welcome to The Superintendent/Principal’s Office!

Dear PUSD Families and Students,

I want to welcome you back for the 2024-2025 school year!  The season of summer usually proves a welcome relief from the routine of the other school-centered ten months, and I hope that for everyone this was the case this year.  Travel, summer days, summer camps, picnics, hikes, beach time, summer adventures, and time with family and friends all certainly add to the healthy and complete development of our children and our families.  My summer days were filled with some adventures, but also moving back to Humboldt County where I grew up. I have thoroughly enjoyed being home and with my family and friends, as well as getting to know the PUSD community.  I know we are going to have a fantastic year!

As we begin the school year, it is time to turn our attention to your children’s education and the academic year.  On behalf of administration, teachers, and staff at PUSD, we are eager to see your children and continue their education.  We are absolutely delighted that you are a part of our school community, and we look forward to working together with you and your child.

This summer we have worked hard to update facilities, refine our curriculum and instructional practices, and enhance our resources to support all students.  I have learned PUSD has many accomplishments to be proud of and is committed to providing students the highest level of instruction and support. I am very excited to be a part of this team.

This year I want to get to know everyone and develop strong relationships with our families and staff.  I believe that communication is a vital part of the school to home partnership. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with some exciting updates, as well as some basic information to help you and your child(ren) have a successful year.

Basic Information:

  • School Starts at 8:25 a.m.

  • School Dismissal Times: K-3rd 2:30 p.m. and 4th-8th 3:00 p.m. (early dismissal on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. for all students)

How You Can Help At Home:

  • Talk to your child at home and reinforce that success at school is a priority.

  • Provide a dedicated time and place for your child to do his/her homework.

  • Ensure your child is on time to school every day with minimal absences.

  • Read the school handbook with your child, and make sure he/she is familiar with school rules and procedures/policies.

  • Establish open communication with your teacher through emails, phone calls, and/or scheduled meetings.

  • Find out how to get involved.  Participate in school events and activities (PTO, DELAC, Garden, Classroom Activities, Special Events, etc).

I would like to strongly encourage you to partner with us at PUSD to be an active and engaged in your child’s education.  I know we are going to have an amazing year, and I thank you for your support and involvement! I look forward to meeting each of you on campus and in the community.

Sincerely,
