State-Funded Programs

In addition to basic school aid, Pacific Union receives state and federal money on a competitive basis because it recognizes the need of our students to have every educational opportunity available. All of the following programs require a high level of coordination and parent support. A more expanded description of each program appears in the School Plan available for check out through the library.

TITLE I
These are programs which provide additional instructional time and materials in basic and advanced skills to students below grade level and to limited English speaking students.

TITLE II
State funds to provide additional staff development in the areas of math,science as a priority and other core subject areas as needed.

SPECIAL EDUCATION-SPEECH
Special Education is a state and locally funded program providing a plan for qualifying students who need part-time alternative learning environment, modified curriculum, or in class support. Speech provides speech therapy to identified students.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
A state funded program for all K-8 students which provides the opportunity to plan improvements to the regular curriculum. It funds classroom assistants, materials, and staff development.

GIFTED AND TALENTED
A state funded program to provide students with exceptional abilities additional opportunities to work on special projects and to receive enrichment in the classroom.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS
Although these programs carry no grant monies specifically, some of them receive funding from our funded programs: Drug Abuse Resistance Program, Conflict Management, Johns Hopkins 7 grades Talent Search, County Gifted Academies, HSU 7-8 grade Talent Search, tutoring, homework place, mini classes, community networks, after school power hour, interest clubs, after school enrichment classes, drama artist, and HSU computer interns.

INSURANCE
Our school does not purchase insurance to cover medical or hospitalization payments in case of injury or accident while your child is at school. Private insurance may be purchased at a nominal cost. Contact the school for further information.

BTSA & PAR
Pacific Union provides new teachers with opportunities to work with Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment and veteran teachers to work with peer assistant review as they improve their teaching skills.

DRUG EDUCATION
These are state and federal funds used to reduce at risk behaviors by providing prevention programs for all students and intervention programs for those with identified needs.

EARLY MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE
Formerly called PIP and locally named HUGS, helping us grow strong, this is a cooperative effort between county and state mental health services and our school. Its purpose is to help children get a good start in school both academically and socially, by fostering healthy self-concepts and developing social skills.

SCHOOL BASED PROGRAM
An opportunity to combine services from School Improvement, Economic Impact Aid, Master Plan, and Gifted to provide a coordinated program for students.
