The music program is designed to help provide a balanced, well-rounded education to all of our students. Music education specifically focuses on creating music and developing an awareness of the beauty in music. These goals are achieved in two sections: general classroom music and the pull-out program.

General music strives to give all of the students a broad music education. Students learn basic music skills such as in-tune singing, a feeling for the beat, and music literacy. Students also gain exposure to the world of music including its great composers, compositions, and the music of many cultures.

The pull out program is for 4th-8th grade students who have interest in further developing their ability in band, orchestra, chorus, and strings. Some classes require audition; some classes are for beginners. The pull out program takes the student out of their regular classroom to participate in twice a week group practices. The more advanced ensembles are responsible for representing the school in concerts at the school and in the community. Look for the up-coming performances to see and hear our amazing musicians in action.

Writers in the Mist Club

Writers In the Mist consists of a group of students grade levels 1st – 8th that come together every Wednesday morning at 7:30am to write and share with their peers. Each week a different prompt or situation is provided and while eating bagels and drinking hot chocolate the children write. In this environment children are creative and productive and love listening to others share. Another component of this club is guests from our community who share their own pieces of writing or favorite writings. This union of writers has been in existence for over 10 years.

Throughout the year, individual classrooms put on various plays and performances.  The 7th and 8th grade students put on a play in the spring each year.  Recent productions include The Lion King and Seussical, the Musical.  The entire school celebrates drama as part of Arts month in May.  Talent shows and classroom plays are performed on our stage.
